Shooter named in murder-suicide investigation near Great Falls Ave and Chevy Chase Street

UPDATE 1/21/21
10 AM:

The suspect has been identified as 70-year-old Allyn Harry Harris of 912 Great Falls Terrace.

While completely nude, Harris fired multiple rounds into a vehicle murdering a woman in the driveway of their home. The vehicle, while still in reverse, rolled across the street into a neighbors fence.

The identity of the victim will not be released per Marsy's Law, which protects the rights of crime victims and their families.

This is still an open and active investigation.

UPDATE 4:20 PM:

At 9:30 this morning, shots fired were reported on Great Falls Terrace. Responding deputies found a woman deceased in the driver seat of her car in the driveway of the home.

After firing multiple rounds into the vehicle, the shooter fled inside of the home, where he remained for hours.

Aviation and SWAT were on scene while members attempted to make contact with the shooter.

After hours of unsuccessful attempts to make contact, the SWAT team used additional resources to confirm the suspect was deceased inside the home.

Names are not being released at this time, as next of kin have not been notified.

UPDATE 3:40 PM:

Investigators are still on scene of what now appears to be a murder-suicide.

The names will not be released at this time as deputies are attempting to locate next of kin.

There is no threat to the public and deputies anticipate being on scene well into the evening hours as investigators and crimes scene gather evidence.

UPDATE ( 11:54 AM)-- The Charlotte County Sheriffs Office says a male suspect shot a female who was in her vehicle.

The suspect then ran inside the home.

He is barricaded in the house.

Aviation and Swat are on scene.

Schools in the area are no longer on lockdown.

UPDATE (11:09 AM)-- The Charlotte County Sheriffs are investigating a domestic-related shooting.

SWAT is in the area, and the suspect is believed to be in a home.

Stay in your home unless ordered to evacuate by law enforcement within the immediate area.

The Charlotte County Sheriffs Office says there is a heavy police presence in the area of Great Falls Ave and Chevy Chase St.

Due to the presence, The following schools are on soft lockdown: MPE, PCHS, CTC academy, MMS and MCO.

They are asking you to avoid the area if possible.
